Research

My main research interests are in the field of reproductive endocrinology. My D.Sc. thesis was on "Hypothalamo-pituitary-ovarian axis in the polycystic ovary syndrome". I published extensively on various aspects of the polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) including pathophysiology, management, cardiovascular risks, long term complications and the effect of exercise on insulin resistance.

My research and publications in the menopause field cover cardiovascular risk factors and various types of hormones replacement therapy (HRT), long term follow up of postmenopausal osteoporosis and the effects of HRT on cognition.

Over the recent years I have been involved in osteoporosis research with special interest in the role of vitamin D in the management of osteoporosis, low bone density in anorexia nervosa and Turner Syndrome and determinants of osteoporosis in men.

My research activities have been undertaken in collaboration with the University of Warwick, University of Sussex, Imperial College London, University of Lodz (Poland) and also with various departments at the Royal Free Hospital.

Teaching

I am regularly invited to lecture at international scientific meetings as well as various meetings and seminars in the UK. I have been involved as a lecturer and workshops moderator in several regional postgraduate courses organized by the European Society for Endocrinology (ESE). I often lecture to general practitioners and organize regular yearly updates on osteoporosis and reproductive endocrinology.
